Website redesign and mobile app development project begins
FALMOUTH (February 2, 2022) – The Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority and ADK Group of Boston have begun the year-long project to redesign the Authority’s website, www.steamshipauthority.com, and develop the Authority’s first mobile application.
The Authority’s project team, which includes representatives from the Authority’s communications, marketing, shoreside operations, reservations, and accounting departments, held a project kick off meeting with 15 representatives of ADK Group and its parent company, projekt202, on January 12, 2022. That meeting was the official beginning of the discovery phase of the project, which is expected to run through mid-February and will include reviewing current technology, blueprinting the Authority’s technological processes and needs, and hosting a series of workshops with the project team. The current timeline calls for the website and app to launch in approximately one year.
“We are extremely excited to have this project underway with our new website partner, ADK Group,” said Robert B. Davis, general manager of the Steamship Authority. “For many customers, our website serves as the first step of their journey with us. Reimagining our website and designing a mobile app are key components of our communications strategy and we are eager to see them come to fruition through our work with ADK Group.”
“As a Boston-based company, the Steamship Authority is close to our hearts,” said ADK General Manager Chris Baker. “Many of our team members regularly use the Authority, and some of us are from the islands. We’re thrilled by the opportunity to help the SSA build a best-in-class website and mobile app that exceeds the expectations of travelers.”
Since its founding, ADK has established itself as one of New England’s leading digital agencies, providing strategy, design and software engineering services to hundreds of top organizations. In the summer of 2021, ADK joined projekt202, a consortium of agencies around the world that share people, process, and expertise.
ADK Group submitted one of 16 proposals received by the Steamship Authority in response to its Request for Proposal issued on June 1, 2021. Following a review of the proposals by the project team, ADK Group was awarded the $1,996,554 contract at the Authority Board’s October 2021 meeting. The project is being partially funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Ferry Boat Program.
The Authority has established a dedicated page on its website, www.steamshipauthority.com/websiteproject, to provide public updates on the project. The public can also subscribe to biweekly email updates on the project through the Authority’s eNews at public.govdelivery.com/accounts/MASSA/subscriber/new.
